Reader, The best way to Meet Your Monster is in the wild... Like embarking on a scavenger hunt for your Monsters... If you stay on the look-out for your Monsters, you might find them in Yin Yoga classes 😉 or any place where things are slow, still, and quiet. You're likely to find them in traffic or other high stress situations. I find a lot of my Monsters in places where I think I need to get things right or prove myself (your Monsters are usually somehow connected to your core wound - they're enthralled to the beliefs about yourself that you created as a way to protect yourself) You'll find them in the places where you feel deeply disappointed, enraged, frustrated, annoyed, and a righteous sense of injustice! You will 100% find them reflected back to you from other people - especially ones you're in relationship with. I'll give you some prompts to help you find your Monster "on demand" in just a bit. But first, I want to share some Monster Archetypes I've noticed within myself and others. These archetypes will give you an idea for what you're looking for when you go hunting for your Monsters. Read through the list slowly…take your time and notice what responses you have to each category of Monsters. What sensations arise in your body? [Note: if you feel a high sensation response to any of these Archetypes, especially with a story about SOMEBODY ELSE EMBODYING THEM, chances are you have this monster within you!] Monster Archetypes The Whiners - These Monsters looooove to complain! Life is sooooo hard for these Monsters! Nothing is fair and everything is hard, hard, hard! The Royalty - These Monsters feel entitled! They expect everything to work out perfectly for them and are highly offended when they don’t get their way! The Warriors - These Monsters are fiercely protective. They are angry, defending parts that usually want to burn shit down. The Fuck it Monsters - These monsters are apathetic and incapable of giving any more shits about anything. A little hint: Fuck It Monsters usually get activated when self-care has been absent for too long. The Better Than Monsters - These monsters include our Expert Monsters, our Martyr Monsters, and our Know-it-All Monsters. Essentially any part of you that believes it is better than other people. The Leo Monsters - These monsters are our attention-seeking monsters. They just really want all eyes on them! Because they likely feel shame around this, they'll get their attention in some subversive and manipulative ways. The Brat Monsters - These monsters love to throw proper tantrums! They want things done their way, yet nothing seems to satisfy them. They have a really tough time when they don't get their way, yet then tend to obstruct all efforts to help them. As you do this work, you may discover many more Monster Archetypes. This list is a great place to start with your search for your monsters. Just a reminder: Every single one of these Monsters is lovable and worthy of unreasonable approval. Inviting these Monsters into a Monster Playdate requires that we start with this premise. In the next email, I'll give you some questions to ask your Monsters in your Monster Playdate and ways to play with them. Chances are if you go hunting in the wild for your Monsters or if you try on some of these Archetypes for yourself, you'll be ready to have a playdate! If you still haven't quite found the Monster you want to talk to, here are some questions that just might lead you there:
Phew! This might be a really sensational email for you! And by that, I mean, noticing yourself feeling a lot of sensations in your body! I'd love to know when and if you find one of your Monsters! Reply back to this email and let me know what you discovered. If you've found your Monster, you're ready for a Monster Playdate. We just happened to be having one on Saturday, April 27th from 1 - 4 pm CDT. The investment for this is $50 and you can grab your ticket right here (if you're enrolled in Daddy Issues, you get half off - just reach out to get the discount). In this workshop, you’ll get step by step instructions for creating a Monster Playdate with a loving witness - a deeply healing practice that soothes the raging (and fearful) beasts within and unlocks their secret magical powers. You’ll not only learn how to be with your own Inner Monster, but to speak to other people’s Monsters as well, accessing this incredible relationship tool for yourself and your loves. I can't wait to play with all you Monsters! Sweet Dreams, Julie P.S. In my 12 week group program, Daddy Issues: Somatic Reparenting for Procrastinators, Perfectionists, Rebels, Misfits, and Messes, we have regular Monster Playdates as a way to work with our Core Wounds - those beliefs you created in childhood that keep you feeling stuck. The next cohort starts September 3rd. Reach out if you want more info about this 12 week program - including how you can grab it at the beta test price. P.P.S. If you missed Part 3 of this series, you can go back and read it here. |
Reader, Lately, I’ve been struggling to get back to the gym (I've been struggling with a lot, like everyone else - making getting to the gym a lot harder)It was a habit I had on lock for over a year. I don’t love going to the gym — but it meets a lot of needs. It helps me feel healthy, strong, confident. It reminds me I can do hard things. And that feeling? That, I do love. But then… life happened. You know...you're probably going through it too.Things shifted. And I haven’t been able to return...
Hey Reader,Yesterday, Cory Booker stood on the Senate floor and spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes. He broke the record set by Strom Thurmond—the longest filibuster in history—turning it on its head, reclaiming it. He did it to disrupt business as usual. He did it to disrupt the news cycle. He did it to speak up and speak out.To give voice to the millions of people steamrolled by policies, profits, and power. He did it to do something to push back and say: enough is enough And almost...
Hey Reader, For the last several months, I’ve been devoted to growing my audience. And there’s been this persistent, gnawing knowing in my gut:Video is the way. Not because I want to do it. I don’t. But every time I try to sidestep it—reach for something easier, more comfortable, more behind-the-scenes—I land right back at the same truth:If I want to grow, I have to be seen. And for me, that means video. Still, I’ve been dragging my feet. Avoiding. Procrastinating. Getting swept up in false...
